American basketball star Brittney Griner detained in Russia on drug charges, faces up to 10 years in prison | Fox News
The Russian Federal Customs Service released a statement Saturday confirming that an American "two-time Olympic basketball champion" had been taken into custody in February after a narcotics' dog at Sheremetyevo International Airport near Moscow alerted the athlete’s luggage.
According to the statement, Griner could face anywhere between 5-10 years if found guilty.
What you’re forgetting is that Ms. Griner doesn’t feel “fortunate” to live in the USA. She believes she’s part of a victim class, destined to failure and injustice, regardless of her noble character and conduct. What she does believe, is that as a result of her historical victim status, she is immune from the laws and social norms in the USA. Russia didn’t get the memo. She called for the anthem to cease being played before sporting events. Let her sit and realize just how free one is in this country. If it was up to me, she'd serve out her sentence in full. And I'd ask the warden of the prison she is held to play our national anthem at the start of every day in her cell!
I have seen her play at the high school, college and WNBA level. She is incredible basketball talent and can dominate at any level...when she is focused on basketball. She has always let her emotions get in her way and (like many men in the NBA) thinks she is immune to the rules of life and basketball. It's almost like, in her mind, she has never committed a foul...the officials are just out to get her.
She picked the wrong country to get popped for illegal substances. Russia is not exactly a friendly place for members of the FAW community and Griner is a big FAW activist.
