90% of what I learned in college are things I never used. Same for my son who is a CFO for a large company. Same is true for a lot of "real" degree programs. Would you prefer those people being forced to fend for themselves and have all of society (rather than only the elitist) turn their back on them? Social work is an area I could never handle...far too often they encounter people who are at their rock bottom (admittedly often of their own accord) and/or deal with those who have been abused by others. If I had to work in that field...I would probably end up killing someone, especially if they abused a baby.
