Its quite possible that his phone is bugged therefore a recording is possible. However, to legally acquire that recording... that's an act of Congress and maybe more. Besides, a gap is not compelling evidence. Most of the call logs I have seen (and I worked for a company that sold phone systems) list the following in a row across the sheet of paper.
Date, time, number of origin, number called and (if available) the name assigned the number called. Some will list the duration of the call.
A call log DOES NOT make an audio recording...it's just a printout.
