The reality is that any broadcast news station has TWO major obligations: (1) to report the news accurately, and (2) to make money from showing commercials.
Ad revenues are based on reports of viewership by companies like Nielsen. In the past I filled out viewer diaries from Nielsen. I did not even try to report what I watched accurately, I just wanted to fill the thing out and send it in so they would pay me a few bucks for my opinions.
So I question the authenticity of the statement that CNN lost 80% of its viewers. But that only relates to the popularity of CNN, and not at all to their accuracy. Most of the time, the figures of how Fox's competition is failing comes from Fox itself. And Fox lies.
