The major renewable energy producer admit that they make more money from tax credit and Fed., State, and local subsidies than they do from the electricity that they produce.
However: The price of solar panels is dropping at an alarming rate so the cost of installing solar power is becoming more attractive and the cost of production is narrowing.
But this brings up the second cost nobody likes to talk about.
... Somethings the wind doesn't blow, and the sun doesn't shine. We need to have back up fossil fuel generators to handle what the renewable energy doesn't cover in any one day. Today around less than 20% of our energy is renewal, so having the fossil fuel capacity is feasible to handle power drops of the renewal energy. But as the renewal energy total capacity increases, so does the need for fossil fuel backup generators ... California has recently experienced this lack of for thought ...
