They love peanuts and sunflower seeds. For the first 30 days, I went out from my porch 100 feet, and put peanuts down while talking to them. they would not eat the peanuts, til' i had sat back down on the porch. The next month, I placed the peanuts 75 feet out. same scenario. I've a veranda where there is, from outside, only one possible entrance or exit : 3 feet, 3 inches.
In the past it so happened that one or two herons would get "trapped" inside and not find their way out.
With much care for their safety I'd catch first one and release him in the open . . . and then the other !
You just don't want to know what kind of panic screeching sounds they'd do while I caught them . . . like I was slaughtering them, skinning them alive !
Thanks god I do not have any neighbors nearby . . . or else they'd sure have come to check if I wasn't BBcueing some children alive !
