The leaked Nuland–Pyatt call was real, but it doesn’t show the U.S. running a coup. It shows the diplomats discussing which Ukrainian politicians they thought would work well together, something diplomats do in every country. The 2014 government change happened because hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians protested for months, the president fled, and parliament voted him out.
