THE SALIENT LESSON FROM ISRAEL
Yesterday
Israel is not the gunfighter mecca that some Americans think. The only they have which we do not, and which they share with Switzerland, is that every person serves in the military and every person while serving is armed to a degree. Insofar as Israel and not Switzerland, they are surrounded by people that hate them and want them dead...as we see now so clearly.
That the citizenry are not better prepared is astounding. What cultural change must have taken place between the Israel of the 1950s and that of today!?
But I suppose we can say that of America as well can't we? We saw the denizens of "the land of the free and home of the brave", lock down at home, wear masks, close their businesses, and the sworn protectors of freedom in the USA, the police, enforce such unconstitutional decrees that it boggles the mind. Americans seemed to have been conditioned to obey, comply, and abide in the wishes of the authorities. Perhaps that has changed no...we will see.
But Israel? Israeli society, according to Israeli friends of mine, is built upon mutual cooperation and obedience to the laws of Israel.
And those laws say - "There is no clear right to carry a gun in Israel. Nothing similar to the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution exists. In theory, the policy is very strict. No one may own or carry a gun without showing a reason to do so."
And further - "Israeli law allows citizens to carry weapons under certain conditions, such as requiring one for work or living in an area of the country that faces heightened security risks. People who are eligible can own a single gun and 50 bullets."
I don't know how a people like that, living where they do, would agree to live under such a law, but I am not Israeli. Here is an article from The Times Of Israel showcasing the sentiment and a paper published comparing the USA and Israel.

The point is clear to me. Israelis have subrogated their biblically stated, and God given, right to self defense to the Israeli government, the police and the military. And along with that, their ability to be armed in order to enable that right. Look at the lead image. This young lady was taken at gunpoint from her new husband. We do not need to speculate what her fate is. I wonder if they would have raised a stiff middle finger of defiance to the Israeli laws and been armed if they knew what awaited them that day.
As many of us have said in the past, your freedom and your safety are your own responsibility. Those whom you ostensibly rely on to defend you will never be there for you. The invasion of Israel should serve as the latest clear example of that truth. Better a live and free scofflaw, than an unarmed hostage en route to a terrorist torture cell.
