It wasn't "against the law" to do what he did. The reason- he never "took possession of the gun". Sadly, you "legal geniuses" aren't real smart when you think you are smart. Even the Judge had to dismiss the "gun possession": charge since he didn't break any laws in either obtaining it or having it in his possession.
