During the Allied move on Paris a German infantry commander intercepted a convoy of 10 US supply trucks which had gotten caught in the confusion of a shifting battlefield. The Germans hadn't eaten in days, were drinking out of ditches, had almost no ammunition or fuel. Their uniforms were in tatters. They were excited at the prospect of capturing such a large quantity of supplies (hoping for fuel, or ammo or weapons). When they examined the contents of the trucks the German commander announced, I know now the war is hopeless. To his amazement the 10 truckloads of supplies consisted of cherry, apple and other assorted pies sent across the entire Atlantic ocean for our boys. Yet the national socialists couldn't get his men bullets 300 miles from the border.
