Don't you think there are unnecessary employees in the federal government? A list of 1,000 could probably be made inside a week. In addition to the eliminated wages, you get a cut in benefits, insurances that are based on payroll totals, etc. Consolidate offices after the head count reductions where practical. Get the procurement people to actually do their job and source EVERYTHING for better prices. Private section businesses do it all the time...the government can as well.
Hell, our company is VERY profitable (30+% to the bottom line) and we still get beat up over expenses every month...inflation is not an excuse.
