The air hose was rigged to a sealed well head and compressed the air inside the casing, pushing down on the water surface thereby forcing the water up the tubing and into a gravity tank above ground. I've looked for it several times since but never found anything like it. As I remember the company was called "Little Geysers" and might have been an Amish outfit. I think they also had an attachment for it they called "Posi-pond Pumper" that allowed it to pump out of a pond.
Yes a hand pump would work... as in a bucket on a rope around an axle.
