Life was just fine before we "needed" to have millions of catalytic converters and millions of EV cars with a ton's worth of lithium each.
The catalytic converter has become unnecessary for our cars to run clean.
The CC is there to clean up "freak accidents" that might. get past all of the rest of the automated controls that make our cars run as clean as they do.
They are also highly restrictive...it wastes usable HP to push the exhaust through what looks like a "lava rock" filter media.
If our engines were running dirty it would take less than a week to plug up a converter.
and they already have a 150 year supply so far ....
