The Texas abortion law and abortion laws in several other states, appoints citizens as enforcement agents by allowing civil litigation against providers- anyone who aides or abiets the procedure. These laws have not been tested in the higher courts- other than SCOTUS allowing them to stand until actual cases come to the lower courts and appeals bring the case to the highest level. What will happen to the popularity of the law(s) when a citizen brings suit against the alleged biological father. The father is of course responsible for the abortion in the first place and subject to the "aid and abiet” formulation of the law. How will the lower courts rule? As usual, the Conservatives have tangled their purpose to deny women's free choice. Once the lawyers find this and prevail in several embarrassing court cases, the Texas law will soon be taken down.
