From what I remember she was a sort of Merv Griffen who came on during the daytime.

Her show was aimed at hoards of middle aged white suburban women, who are always ripe for the picking with their mass apologist tripe. Winfrey was smart - she identified this mass hysterical weakness and full bore took advantage of it. The ignorant Oprah loving crowd got used and twisted dry.
