It is great because it has a constitution of checks and balances and the foresight of its founding fathers. Think of what we have accomplished as a nation. We've saved the world from tyranny in not one but two global wars. We played an instrumental role in bringing down the Berlin Wall and spread peace and democracy across the globe in the form of our own example. Prosperity and peace are not perfect globally but they are still something that is a somewhat successful exercise. This is because we set an example and try to form a more perfect union.
This is where Donald Trump comes in. Trump had successes and failures. Certainly if he pulled off a North Korean peace deal we might be celebrating his presidency. Unfortunately in the future we will probably not be celebrating his presidency. January 6th is well documented in the way it was handled and the question of how much Trump knew and when he knew it will be a question of constant speculation in the years to come. Still, the attack on the Capital was caught on live television and his welcome ears brought it upon themselves to storm the very seat of our government in an action of vengeance. These attacks had no other underpinning than the smoke and mirrors that Trump and his supporters used to gain and hold onto power. Trump might have finally given the Supreme Court the leaning to strike down Roe v. Wade. This is not a position of personal support but is a victory for the voters who elected him.
Yet, Trump is still a man of little depth except his simple notions of winning which is pretty much what you would expect from a former real estate tycoon that had no governing experience. I could keep going but this is the bottom line. When you join the US Armed Forces you take a pledge to defend the Constitution. Trump instead asks his followers to defend and enhance his own power base by any means necessary. This is the derangement. I hold Conservative views and ask anyone who believes in the notion of Conservativism to read "The Conservative Sensibility" by George Will. Other than that, just try to get off outrage and battle mode and see the world for what it is. Perhaps some Trump supporters need to forget that we are a nation, not the whim of a single individual in the form of Donald Trump.

good post.
