You got me on the gun specifics. I have only shot a 22 caliber rifle at summer camp. No active war on US soil since the Civil War. We did fight the natives and Mexico too before. But from what I can tell there hasn't been an active clash of forces within our borders since then. Machine guns aren't the issue. Semi-autos are. And Americns have had semi-autos for more than a hundred years. Civilians had them before soldiers did. In WWII, our doughboys had bolt-actions.
