According to a recent poll, Russians have said they see Stalin as a great leader by 56%. That is up from about 26% just five years ago. This seems strange to me given the brutality and abuse of absolute power that Stalin enacted. It is also a large sign that Russia is shifting into nationalism that is highly evident in the support for the "special operation" in Ukraine. Perhaps the dream of Russian integration into the global system is now dead. The West was probably foolish in not seeing this sooner.
Nothing is easier than defending the status quo.
