A lot of it to is the fact that Affirmative Action et al. were fiercely fought against and then embraced and they kinda kept moving from there. Everything reaches its logical end at some point. I guess the education system is just trying to figure out what to replace it with at this point. Uncharted territory ahead.
Nothing is easier than defending the status quo.
