The Democrat party platform will never dovetail with the views of White Evangelicals. The best Democrats can hope for when it comes to White Evangelicals is a "stale mate". Try to convince them not to go out and vote for the Republican. This segment is notorious for having an undetermined percentage that will not vote. Those who do vote, will vote 80% for the Republican candidate. If I were a Democrat strategist, and I was targeting this segment, I would do what I could to convince a sliver of that 80% to "sit the election out", based on moral conviction.
The Catholic vote usually splits due to the death penalty and abortion. Both are opposed by the Vatican but that was 20 years ago when I was taught in a Catholic high school.
Nothing is easier than defending the status quo.
