They wouldn't be CEO's if they actually cared about people. When you need head-count, YOU NEED HEADCOUNT!!! As CEO, you are:
- doing your best to justify to your company's shareholders your $500K+ salary;
- Increase market share
- Or, at least increase revenues even if that means shrinking your way to greatness (i.e. headcount)
- Make products that people will pay profit to your company to manufacture
- Develop new product lines that people actually want
- Service existing product lines "good enough"
- Pilfer good employees from less competitive companies
- Sick your lawyers on employees who leave for more competitive companies
What part of this do you think a CEO needs a tin-man's heart for?
