Certainly college is (or can be) a significant maturing stage for young adults.
Networking, friends-for-life, potential mate, etc. may be all the good secondary parts of a college experience.
Education and skills shouldn't be basically ignored:
that's what college is for. Honestly.
Today, I could learn just about anything from youtube. Things I might not be able to learn from youtube:
- Advanced accounting principals and techniques / tax and entity accounting
- Surgery
- Advanced concepts in microbiology
- Math necessary for theorems and proofs of concepts used in Quantum Mechanics, General Relativity, Special Relativity and Field Theory, etc.
- Use of Algorithms, modeling and charting for Finance.
- Advanced Creative writing for people who actually know how to write (or just read King's book "On Writing").
- How to teach K-12 without beating idiots (like jerrab) into a coma.
