I agree with your last statement. It would be foolish to end the war without at least accomplishing what they set out to do. I am simply weary and skeptical of the term "Regime Change". The last time this worked was in Germany and Japan. I would NEVER end this conflict with known Nuclear sites/capability still out there, and READY to make a come back...NEVER !!
