Back in the 1970s a good quality automotive wrench was Sears Craftsman but MAC TOOLS were somewhere in between Snap On and Craftsman and much more affordable than Snap On.
What really took the fun out of being a DIY Shade Tree Mechanic was having to own both Standard and Gay Euro *** Metric tools nowadays

I used to have some older USA Craftsman ratchets - I still have the sockets. I broke the quarter-inch and 3/8-inch sockets. They had a lifetime warranty, so I got them replaced. Broke them again - got rid of them. So far, I haven't broken any of my HF ratchets. I'm a little more careful now, I suppose.
I've seen some torture test of Snap On - no doubt, they make good tools. If I could find a good set of Snap-On ratchets, I probably would buy them. I'm not as familiar with MAC tools, though.
