Trump Takes Aim at Ending Cashless Bail

WASHINGTON—President Trump intensified his tough-on-crime push Monday, signing a pair of executive orders that aim to end the use of cashless bail both nationally and in Washington, D.C.
The new push makes good on a campaign promise to begin to dismantle the liberal crime policies that gained momentum in 2020, after the murder of George Floyd at the hands of a police officer highlighted racial inequities in the criminal justice system. (The only inequities are the crime statistics that show that blacks commit most violent crimes. George Floyd just got done committing a crime and was resisting arrest. He got what he deserved. -Punch)
Trump directed Attorney General Pam Bondi to develop a list of cities that have eliminated cash bail so that his administration can pressure them to change their policies by various means, including threatening to withhold federal funds. The D.C. order aims to reverse decades of policy in the nation’s capital, which was among the first major cities to eliminate cash bail in the 1990s.
“Cashless bail, we’re ending it,” Trump said Monday in the Oval Office. “We’re starting by ending it in D.C.”
