Students reject replacing Father's Day with gender-neutral Parent's Day (msn.com)
Springfield College in Massachusetts released a language guide about replacing the terms 'father' and 'mother' with something more gender-neutral like 'parent' on its campus. Last week, just days before many would celebrate the father in their life, Campus Reform reporter William Biagini took to the streets in Tyson's Corner to ask local students what they thought. The majority of those students polled rejected the idea, for which they were berated.
In the guide, pronouns are broken down and explained, with suggestions of more inclusive ways to use them and 'gender-inclusive nouns' to be used instead of 'gendered nouns.'It suggests using the term 'parent' instead of 'mother' and 'father' as a way to respect parents identifying with non-traditional gender roles.
