every great achievement required incredible cooperation among groups of humans.  No great achievement was ever made by a single individual
 
The Mona Lisa wasn't a bad achievement, or The Wasteland, or the Ciaconne, or The Gettysburg Address or the invention of the telegraph, etc., etc., etc. This thread posits a false dichotomy. Individualism is a trait within a collective, namely the social structure in which we all live.
