overlord.Yes, a lot of it was boring, but I actually like building custom spreadsheets with Lotus 123 for quantity surveys & using onscreen plan estimating systems. And visiting a multitude of job sites, especially high-rises in Texas & California for change orders was a lot more than just interesting.
As for pay, I earned union foreman carpenter wages, had a company truck or car with paid gas & maintenance and insurance & a cell phone. I had paid Kaiser health insurance for my family with $5.00 doctor visit co-pays. And I got good bonuses at the end of every year, as well as turkeys for Thanksgiving & Christmas
.I could have made a lot more money if I had started my own business, but at least I didn't have those headaches of hiring & firing workers.
