Eliminate the simple sugars [alcohol is basically a simple sugar too]....processed flour and deep fried / man made fats.
Increase exercise level to something close to what Kennedy does daily.
If you already have a family history of artery disease and high BP, then limit your animal fat intake to fish and skinless white meat.
Fat free milk ...FF Greek yogurt and FF Feta cheese is OK
I adopted the Dean Ornish diet back in 1998 out of dire need..[even though I have not been 100% faithful to it]
Words to live by...."MY FOOD IS MY MEDICINE" and also...."If you work like a Lumber Jack you can eat like a Lumber Jack".....

I just follow the simple rules:
Meat: Most (I don't like pork that much, others like lamb/chicken/beef/etc. are good)
Vegetables: Almost everything
Fruits: Almost everything
Grains: Quinoa/Millet/Brown rice, no gluten
Fish: Smaller ones
I do not consume dairy/soy as I have a very high immune reaction to it...also those GMO foods (like corn) should be off the table minus maybe 1 soda per month...
BTW...
Fermented foods are not as good as they claim...the so-called probiotics do NOT benefit you because those are not the beneficial bacteria that are actually in your "gut lining" (which is the claim of the pro-ferment crowd...)...your digestive system will simply get rid of those bacteria.
Probiotic "supplements" are a huge waste of money and cost $50/small bottle.
Fermentation was a preservation method from centuries ago when we did not have refrigeration...it is not meant as a "health" tool...
A freshly prepared, organic, steamed (or even raw) cabbage is much better than sauerkraut.
If you want those "good bacteria" you are better off growing vegetables with NO pesticides/herbicides in your own garden and eating them raw...
