I am not familiar with laws pertaining to military service personnel conduct, but would he not be excused due to the fact it was a reporter asking him?
I would imagine making a statement out of nowhere (e.g. going to a political newsroom and making a statement) and being asked his opinion would carry different weights, but maybe that's wrong.
And if so, would saying something like "I voted for Ron Paul" qualify for that penalty?
