You are correct to say that SOME of the citizens in those regions wanted to join Russia. Only some. Not even a majority. This is normal for any trans-national region regardless of ethnicity. The trouble is the way those folks were accomodated. They held a local referendum sponsored by Russia. The government of Ukraine was left out of the process. This is the basis for my complaint. In such an action, where lands change from one nation to another, the governments of both nations should be involved. In this case the referendum should have been coordinated by both Ukraine and Russia. It was not.
