The gun should have only been ready to use just before the scene was shot...even then check the gun to make sure it's only a blank round. This demonstrates that Alec runs on smart *** ego and not smarts.
I had read back when this happened that some of the crew had been using several of the firearms on the set for target practice before filming started for the day.
I agree that live rounds should have never been on the set period, let alone being fired through the "prop" guns that were about to be used by the actors.
The armorer was an idiot for ever allowing that **** on the set in the first place.
