A little insider information.. it is automated. They get inputs from a certain set of sources (stores, retailers, wholesalers, etc) and then run a very complex formula on the data.
As for there being inflation.. no matter where one lives, one can see it. Why is it there? My theory is that it almost all ties back to the stimulus payments issued by the Biden Administration in 2020 and 2021. Another factor is the bonus $300 in unemployment insurance. Even though that practice ended in Sept 2021... it sets a precedent on the prices folks are willing to pay.
