Someone who invests his or her own capital (land, money, tangible resources, intellectual property, or some combination of the above) into an asset with the primary goal of asset appreciation, positive cash flow, or both. The predominance of investing capital (rather than labor) is what separates capitalists from self-employed/micro-businesses/wagie slavies.

When I (or anyone with a reasonable level of intelligence) talk about "creating value," I am referring to inventing objects, frameworks, or techniques like irrigation, steelmaking, refrigerators, nails, cameras, transistors, steam engines, showers, vibrators for desperate women, or w/e.

With a small % of exceptions, inventors are NOT capitalists. They either do not have the prerequisites (no super rich family, no angel investors, no "lucky break") or the interest/time to focus on capital growth while still inventing. Creating something new and useful is the true source of value.

Starting a diner serving eggs, bacon, and pancakes from 6 AM - 2 PM Mon-Sun and having to constantly shuffle among new workers due to "high staff turnover" while complaining "Nobody wants to work" on some Facebook "business owner group" is not "creating value."

This diner is DELIVERING value to customers (likely on 3+ medications for diabetes, high blood pressure, and atherosclerosis). It created ZERO value.

The real "value" (eggs, bacon, and pancakes fried in disgusting, cheap, hydrogenated vegetable oils served in a non-residential establishment) was invented decades ago. You are merely renting a property and employing surly workers behind on their rent payments in the meantime.

Many of you unintelligent heathens will read this and get offended. The smart people will read this and laugh (because everything I said in this post is true, and they already figured this out eons ago).

So before you jump the shark, let me explain:

There's nothing wrong with delivering value, unlocking value, or whatever. There is nothing inherently wrong with making money.

Everybody, from the lowest Negro living in the war-torn Congo to wealthy Jooz in Switzerland (and especially the Jooz) wants 'MO MONEY!!!!!

I am simply asking you to stop pretending that, in your desire to make money, you are some holy angel whose presence has bestowed upon humanity a sanctum of benefits, when in reality you are just another self-interested, enlightened midwit pursuing comfort.

well at least your name fits.
when a diner provides a service, it frees up other people to pursue their lives; they don't have to work 12 hours a day to provide their own food.
How long would it take you to make a pencil and what would it cost?
You have no idea how many people "making pencils" employs and provides their livelihood.
if that midwit pursuing comfort didn't do so, maybe 10, 12, 100, or 2000 wouldn't be able to pursue their comfort.
Capitalism is a symbiotic relationship.  organisms(business or people) living off of each others being.
Is Capitalism perfect.  No, but it sure has beat everything else that has been instituted!
