Please note: Burisma is owned by Mykola Zlochevsky, an ally of Russian president Putin, and a member of the former "Russian puppet" regime that Putin installed in the Ukraine. That illegitimate regime was ousted in 2014 by the Ukrainians. Zlochevsky fled to Russia but later returned to Ukraine. The former Russian puppet president remains in Russia to this day.

I think that was Yanukovych. Russia certainly backed his election to power, but the election was declared by international monitors to be free and fair (although I'm not sure how seriously I take those words after 2020). Although his corruption played a lead part in the grievances that led to political protests, the Maidan revolution, and him being overthrown - by all accounts, his government was still voted in to power - it wasn't illegitimate. You can side with Putin and still get voted in to power
