I think Putin is being somewhat strategic here. Look at all the screeching we've had from the left about how Putin wants Trump in power, Trump is Putin's puppet etc - all as a way to malign Trump and bring him down politically. It dates right back to the Russia hoax, as a primary tactic by the anti-Trump industrial complex.
Well, if you were Putin, and you did want Trump in power, wouldn't you hang yourself like an albatross around Biden's neck instead?... Personally, I'd say such tactics would be fair game at this point
