Insufficient industry, readiness, innovation,
and funding hamper military’s ability
to prevail in conflict, key experts find.

 “Unclassified public wargames suggest that, in a conflict with China, the United States
would largely exhaust its munitions inventories in as few as three to four weeks,
with some important munitions (e.g., anti-ship missiles) lasting only a few days.   

The U.S. military “lacks both the capabilities and the capacity required to be confident
it can deter and prevail in combat,” in the judgment of a congressional commission.  

One of the reasons they came to that conclusion is the current state of the
U.S. defense industrial base compared to China’s.
