It seems kind of silly for someone who didn't have the balls to serve to question the motives of someone who did.
I have a biweekly zoom call with three of my classmates, two of whom retired from the service as I did, one as a Captain and former commanding officer of a Seal Team. We were talking a few calls back about the armchair generals who never served, all moaning about the horrid loss of life in the Afghan withdrawal. We all agreed that bringing the entire force out of a hostile environment and limiting losses to only 13 was phenomenal. The Seal reminded us that the 68 we lost in the withdrawal from Vietnam was considered pretty darned good at the time. If you want an example of how to botch a hostile territory withdrawal, look at the Marines withdrawal from Chosin Reservoir, Korea.
