Top generals contradict Biden, say they urged him not to withdraw from Afghanistan
Gen. Frank McKenzie said that he recommended maintaining a small force of 2,500 troops in Afghanistan earlier this year.

If civilians in Afghanistan died trying to escape along with departing US troops, I mourn them as well. I do also celebrate the hundreds of soldiers who very well could have died - but thankfully didn't - in a forced withdrawal from hostile territory.
