Okay, so let's say, for the sake of argument, aliens cannot do FTL travel in the linear sense in time and space. Here's the deal - NONE OF YOU have any real understanding of just how far it is from Earth to Proxima Centauri. Perhaps a being that exists in a higher dimension than our 3 spacial dimensions can transgress the laws of physics as we 3D beings understand them. It's like pondering on whether Princess Zelda could ever leave her 1992 Nintendo game cartridge. No, she can't. And, no aliens can't travel near light speed.
However, space/time can do whatever the hell it wants (space/time expansion is not limited by SoL), and who is to say, like a surfer riding a wave, aliens haven't figured out a way to tap into that?
YOu don't know, no one does. No one can grasp what an alien race, perhaps millions of years more advanced than us, can, or cannot do.
You need to expand your thinking beyond anthropomorphic constraints.
