But from birth until we learned to read, we were immersed daily, and at church three times a week, in the entire Christ story, every parable, every sermon, every miracle, and especially every passage in red letters in the first four Gospels.
In addition, we were taught the children’s stories from the Old Testament, the good ones, like Adam and Eve and Noah and the Ark, and Daniel in the Lion’s Den, the stories fit to tell little kids.
I learned to read at college level in two years.
I had to, in order to pass an examination from the elders (not including my father) over the first four gospels, to be baptized and join the church.
At that time, nearly sixty years ago, our church claimed we were less than one per cent of all Christians.
What I learned was, all organized Christian denominations are entirely a set of doctrines, dogmas and creeds that are based on frail and error prone men, like I am. Christ never wrote a single word he was said to have said, not even one.
My value system is I follow the Master, as best I can according to the most beautiful story ever told.
