Bravado on the part of old time Campbellite preachers.

The traditions of the independent Scottish tradition Christian Churches likely do trace back to Scotland, sometime during the Roman era. But we were taught our church began the instant Christ died, about 3 pm local time in Jerusalem on Friday April 3, 33 AD.
They claimed not to be a denomination but they actually were. They also claimed not to “cherry pick” the gospels but they actually did, a little cherry picking.
And the level of dodging and twisting and outright deception by distraction those preachers used, to explain away contradictions was legendary.

Mary the mother of Christ lived in Nazareth when her son was crucified in Jerusalem.
The Sanhedrin didn’t come for Him until maybe 3 am.
It’s forty miles to Nazareth to Jerusalem.
Who went to fetch Mary? She is recorded as standing at the Foot of the Cross about noon.
Mary Magadeline is recorded as having money.
Well, she’d have a pair of good fast, horses, if she was rich.
One of the most thrilling sermons they preached was the beautiful young Mary, furiously riding forty miles in the pre dawn darkness to Nazareth, leading a fast horse for the mother of our blessed Savior.
