15 shells in the tube and one in the chamber
it always seemed like a good choice for a bug out if need be, I could carry thousands of rounds in a backpack

and for home protection, I’m thinking that 16 small pieces of lead going through someone’s body should do the trick

If completely cleaned every generation of owners I think they’ll shoot forever, but few I’ve seen have ever had the trigger group dropped.
The rifle is incredibly simple to break down and clean. There are lots of you tube videos how.
Some may need an occasional magazine spring, if kept loaded, and nylon recoil buffers might crack, and are easily replaced.
It’s the best designed affordable .22 ever made.
