To be a school teacher used to mean you had to be prettier and smarter, both, than all the other young and pretty and smart girls that applied for the teaching position and able to beat the daylights out of the first eighth grade boy that made the first smart *** comment about how pretty the new school teacher was.
My mother was not quite 17 in April 1943 when she applied for teacher at the Royal School, and walked across plowed ground carrying her high heels to win that job from the President of the school board who’d halted his horses at the sight of her coming.
In September 1943, she nearly beat the *** off the 14 year old boy at fhe Royal School that grew up to be a minister and preached Mama’s funeral in 2010.
She got paid $150 a month when grown men used to plow all day for a dollar.
Do that again and you’ll not have school teachers teaching kids about anything other than to behave and learn.
