The traditions of the Christian Church (Scottish tradition) hold that of the four Gospels perhaps only Matthew in his old age could have penned in Greek the story of Jesus. In other words, the Greek who wrote the Gospel of John repeated what John witnessed (hearsay) or repeated what some one heard John say (double hearsay), in Koine Greek.
Of all the disciples only the tax collector Matthew would have known Aramaic (common language) Hebrew (temple language) and Latin (state language) and might also have known Koine Greek, which every copy of the original texts was found written in at the 325 AD First Council of Nicaea:
