A hundred years ago a white mob would have lynched that black man.
Except for fear of the law, they would lynch him today.
The law cannot allow anybody to commit strong armed robberies. He should go to prison.
But for how long?
Not for as long as robbers who use weapons.
And longer than if he’d not caused an unintentional death.
The victim’s family is simply repeating basic Christian morality of forgiveness and mercy, very rare when Christ walked among us and rarer still today.
The deciding factor for me, would be to not appease the mobs yelling for his scalp.
