I grew up in a solidly Republican household and I’ve known racism and bigotry were wrong since I was in my cradle.
Also, as I grew up I learned every male ancestor on both sides of my family fought for the United States during the American Civil War.
We’d liberated the slaves, at a frightful cost.
Then when I reached college I learned the Republican Party of the thirties hated Roosevelt so much they cheered on Hitler. They didn’t teach me that in high school.
Then finally one day, Dick Cheney tried to convince me water torturing prisoners was not really, water torturing prisoners.
I said bull ****.
And since then I’ve been a Democrat.
I’ll never be a liberal, but I’m four square behind the truth.
The Republican Party today is as bad a cancer on the nation as the Dixiecrats were in my youth.
