The whole "foreign policy by mean girl" that the ENTIRE WEST effected failed.
Russia stood. Putin the Great STOOD. And now Trump - who was in on it up to his orange neck - has to make a deal with Vlad the Impaler.
And the thing is, I don't think he is going to find Vladimir to be a push over. Putin knows what he wants - what Russia needs. Russia demands to be part of the security architecture of the west. Otherwise, there is still more of Ukraine to be absorbed.
President Putin is unlikely to allow the west to use Ukraine as a proxy against him in future. We shall see. I have no way of knowing how damaged Russia's economy is - and therefore how badly Putin wants a deal. My hunch is that he knows two things:
1. Whatever damage Russia is suffering, Europe is suffering worse; and
2. He has BRICS as a lifeline - Russia will, as it always and forever has, muddle through.
So I look for him to hold orange feet to the fire. I look for him to get a real deal - not another Minsk II.
