In the 1970s, the prices of gas-guzzling cars, particularly muscle cars, dropped significantly due to rising gas prices and stricter emissions regulations. Consumers shifted their preferences towards more fuel-efficient vehicles, leading to a decline in demand for high-horsepower models.
Okay. I don't buy it - but okay.
For the price of muscle cars to drop "significantly," either the cost of production would have to have suddenly dropped, or the previous prices must have been a deep and shameless gouge. The only other market-sensible possibility that I can think of would be that this "significant" drop affected already produced, suddenly out of demand autos - meaning a blip, not a trend. Auto makers do not produce loss leaders. They build for profit.
