I stand by my belief that no amount of taxation will satisfy the Government Beast. It will never be enough!
A short history lesson:
did James Madison say that wealthy people should pay a higher percentage of their income in federal taxes
+4There is no record of James Madison saying that wealthy people should pay a higher percentage of their income in federal taxes.Madison's views on taxation were focused on impartiality, protecting property rights, and avoiding the "tyranny" of the majority taking from the minority.
Key points regarding his views include:
Opposition to Unequal Taxation: In a 1792 essay on property, Madison wrote that a government is not just when "arbitrary taxes invade the domestic sanctuaries of the rich" or when taxes are used to "oppress one species of property and reward another".
Protection of Property: Madison believed that a "just security to property" is a key goal of government and warned against the majority using their power to redistribute wealth, as he discussed in Federalist No. 10.
Views on Factions: He argued that an unequal distribution of property causes factions, but he sought to manage this through a representative system rather than by punishing the wealthy through taxation.
Views on Wealthy and Poor: While he noted that wealth often influences politics, he also observed that the "man in affluent circumstances has different feelings from the man who daily toils for a subsistence," aiming to create a balance
I read Madison. You hastily googled a narrative from a narrative spinner.
If you bothered to read the Federalist Papers, you would know that Madison explained the reason for the federal government being funded exclusively by Impost and Excise taxes. It was so that only the wealthy would pay for the federal government's operation, as only the welathy could afford imported and manufactured items. This is during a time when working people wore "home-spuns" and fashioned makeshift plows.
I would say that fixing the system so that the wealthy paid for 100 PERCENT of the federal government's operation while working people paid zero percent constitutes a higher percentage.
What you have googled up is spin. What I have shared ie education. You can keep on believing spin, or you can take my word for it, or you can read the Federalist Papers for yourself - or merely read Madison's contributions. But slathering a layer of narrative at me only makes me roll my eyes.
